Healthy Hormone Gelatin Gummies Recipe

This Healthy Hormone Gelatin Gummy recipe is a weekly staple in our house. Paired with a real food way of eating - these are a great way to boost your hormone-healing amino acid intake and benefit from the anti-oxidants in real fruit juice (which is especially high in red, purple, and blue fruits!). [1][2][3][4]

What You’ll Need:

  • 8 tbsp Bovine or Porcine Gelatin (I like Perfect Supplements or Great Lakes brands)

  • 4 Cups of juice

  • A measuring pitcher

  • A saucepan

  • A silicone mold or 9x9 baking dish

What You’ll Make

About twelve 3 oz gummies - depending on the size of your mold/baking dish. If using a dish, just cut your finished gummies to whatever size you like.

The Healthy Hormone Gelatin Gummy Recipe

Step 1: Bloom Your Gelatin

This is the most important step & makes dissolving all of that gelatin (and benefiting from all of its goodness) super easy. Pour your juice into your measuring pitcher and sprinkle all of the gelatin on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes or until fully bloomed.

This is what fully-bloomed gelatin looks like.

Step 2: Heat It

Pour your gelatinous juice mixture into your saucepan and heat on medium-low heat until fully dissolved. Doesn’t have to be super hot. Stir it a couple of times if you want to.

Step 3: Mold it

Pour your warm gummy juice into your molds or your baking dish. Or pour a little into a mug and enjoy it warm!

Step 4: Chill It

Pop them in the fridge for about 30 minutes. That’s it!

What Makes These Gelatin Gummies So Good For Your Hormones?

It can be the antioxidants in the juice, but it’s mostly the amino acids in the gelatin. Gelatin is an incredibly nourishing food. In short, it provides many of the healing amino acids that you need to thrive.

What Are Amino Acids?

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. As it turns out, our bodies don’t really need protein, they actually need specific amino acids that are found in protein-containing foods. Your body uses these amino acids to build healthy tissues and build healthy hormones.

Here are a couple of the amino acids found in gelatin and some of their incredible healing powers:

Glycine

If you want to optimize your health, getting enough glycine is vital. Here are the benefits:

  • Glycine supports a healthy blood sugar response. Especially when eating with higher carbohydrate foods (think: the sugary fruit juice in these gummies). [5]

  • You need to eat enough glycine so your body can make enough glutathione. Glutathione is an antioxidant and helps your body keep inflammation low. [6]

  • Glycine is the main building block of collagen - the protein that makes up our skin and other soft tissues. Eating enough glycine can help maintain healthy & vibrant skin. [7]

  • Glycine also plays an important role in healthy nerve function. And, may be especially beneficial for people with neurodegenerative diseases (like MS or Parkinson’s). [8][9][10]

  • It’s essential for healthy pregnancies. Especially as you enter into the third trimester. [11]

How much glycine do you need?

Most studies showing these benefits of glycine suggest we need around 15-20 grams daily, at minimum.[12] It takes about 3.5 ounces of beef to get 2 grams of glycine.

Leucine

Leucine is particularly helpful for optimizing your metabolism and preserving muscle/strength as you age (really important for us ladies who don’t want to deal with osteoporosis). Here are some of the benefits of leucine:

  • Leucine helps improve muscle mass when paired with resistance training. [13] Muscle mass supports a healthy metabolism and healthy hormones.

  • Can help increase satiety and satisfaction with meals, thanks to supporting healthy Leptin responses (a hormone produced by your fat cells that tells you when you’ve had enough to eat). [14] So, wanna reduce food cravings? Focusing on foods high in Leucine like gelatin and red meat may be helpful.

  • May help you lose excess body fat. [15]

How much leucine do you need?

Experts on dietary protein intake and health tend to agree that we should be getting at least 9 grams of leucine every day (roughly 3 grams per meal). It takes about 4 oz of beef to get 3 grams of leucine.

So, add all of these healing benefits to the list of reasons you should make some of these real-food gelatin gummies!

Some Cautionary Food for Thought…

These Healthy Hormone Gummies - wonderful as they are - do contain a decent amount of sugar. If you’re at the very beginning of your hormone healing journey, you may not tolerate these very well. But, as for most women, as you learn to heal your hormones with real food your tolerance for whole-food sugars (like the ones found in real fruit juice) will likely improve. And, you’ll be able to enjoy these gummies along with all of their real food benefits.
